The Leveraged Engineering team is seeking a seasoned Materials Engineering Consultant to support Asia Pacific region for integrated operations. The selected candidate will provide technical support for capital projects and plant operations, with a primary focus on metallic and non-metallic materials for chemical manufacturing facilities. This role will serve as a subject matter expert in non-metallic equipment, material selection, failure analysis, corrosion assessment, and materials characterization, ensuring safe, reliable, and fit-for-purpose equipment and processes. The ideal candidate brings deep technical knowledge in metals, polymers, elastomers, and composite materials, complemented by capabilities in metallurgy, corrosion mechanisms, and physical failure analysis. This individual will co-lead global materials competency.
Key Responsibilities
1. Metallic and Non-Metallic Materials Engineering (Primary Focus)
- Provide technical leadership in the selection and application of both metallic and non-metallic materials (plastics, elastomers, composites) for process equipment and piping systems.
- Apply and interpret industry codes and standards (e.g., ASME, API, ASTM) and ensure compliance with RAGAGEPs.
- Identify and promote best practices (including local and international standards) for designing, operating, and maintaining non-metallic equipment and piping systems.
- Collaborate with process engineers and project teams to ensure non-metallic design alignment with process requirements.
- Provide technical input during equipment design, procurement, fabrication, inspection, installation, and vendor qualification.
- Lead the development and maintenance of corporate engineering standards related to non-metallic systems.
- Assess fitness-for-service, degradation mechanisms, and chemical compatibility of non-metallic systems.
- Develop and interpret material performance data to support safe and reliable operations.
2. Physical Failure Analysis
- Lead or support failure investigations for metallic and non-metallic components.
- Identify root causes of failures, including mechanical, corrosion, environmental, and wear mechanisms.
- Provide technical input to Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) and recommend corrective actions.
- Guide proper evidence handling and field investigation practices.
3. Materials Characterization& Metallurgy
- Perform or interpret material identification, compositional analysis, and microstructural evaluation.
- Evaluate mechanical properties and manufacturing processes (casting, forging, fabrication).
- Support material qualification and specification compliance assessments.
4. Corrosion Engineering& Material Selection
- Provide expertise on corrosion mechanisms, mitigation strategies, and material of construction selection.
- Support development of integrity operating windows (IOW) and corrosion monitoring programs.
- Design and review laboratory/field corrosion testing programs as needed.
- Partner with operations, R, capital projects, and manufacturing teams to resolve materials-related challenges.
5. Global& Cross-Regional Support
- Co-lead global materials engineering competency across regions
- Collaborate with regional SMEs to ensure effective coverage and knowledge sharing

- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or related field coupled with a minimum of 10 years’ experience primarily in materials engineering, application, plant technical of chemical process equipment and systems
- Strong experience in metallic and non-metallic materials (polymers, elastomers, composites)
- Working knowledge of plastic piping and vessels, FRP tanks, plastic-lined piping and vessels for the design, inspection, and repair
- Proficiency in engineering documentation and familiarity with capital project execution
- Experience Familiarity with interpretation of regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA, Local Metallic and Non-Metallic Vessel Codes) and RAGAGEPs (e.g., ASME, API, ASTM) that apply to fixed equipment design and maintenance
- Demonstrated experience in failure analysis and root cause investigations
- Knowledge of corrosion mechanisms and materials selection principles
- Ability to work cross-functionally in a manufacturing or industrial environment
- Able to travel to manufacturing sites and equipment manufacturers occasionally within the Asia Pacific region to support project needs. (average 35% of time)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in chemical process engineering is an asset
- Background in metallurgy and materials characterization techniques (e.g., SEM, XRD, FTIR, metallography)
- Experience with corrosion testing and electrochemical analysis
- Familiarity with equipment fabrication, inspection, and mechanical integrity programs
- Experience supporting RCFA and incident investigations
- Experience with Process Safety Management, Mechanical Integrity Systems, and Process Engineering
Key Competencies
- Technical depth in materials engineering (metallic and non-metallic)
- Demonstrated technical leadership and ability to work independently on complex design tasks
- Strong collaboration and communication skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams
- High level of initiative and accountability in delivering quality engineering solutions.
